The Canvey Island Open Water Swim Squad all arrived at the Open Championships, bright and early on Sunday morning to compete in the East Region Championships. The lake temperature was a very comfortable 21.2 deg and so the team were racing in skins. First off, Keira kicked the day off the day with a 3km swim. Keira had a great start, heading off down to the bottom of the lake with the lead group, showing her open water experience in handling the pressure in the front pack. 2km into the race and Keira was still in contention for a medal and showing amazing stamina and skill, arriving at the finish with a fantastic 00:50:20.17, getting a very well deserved bronze medal for third fastest girl in Essex.

Next up was Mia and Noah, competing in the 1km distance in their first ever open water event. Both swimmers showed amazing composure at the start, taking the race start in their stride and fitting ointo the swim pack. Both swimmers dug deep having the worst weather conditions of the day, but went on to produce excellent 1km race times. Mia came through the finish line with an astonishing 00:22:20.16 time and Noah with a similarly impressive time of 00:22:39.96, both just missing the bronze medal positions and being the 4th fastest over 1km in Essex in their age groups.

The last race for the team was the 2km event in which we had 3 swimmers, Ava, Lohan and Holly. This was the first open water event for Lohan and Holly who settled into the race with ease. Ava showed experience and composure, not being phased with the open water conditions. All three swimmers gave extraordinary performances and showed true CISC grit, bringing in excellent 2km race times. Ava crossed the line in 00:39:37.09 (5th in age group), Holly in 00:36:38.64(4th in age group), and Lohan in 00:36:39.57(3rd in age group), obtaining a bronze medal.

A massive WELL DONE to all swimmers. They all swam brilliantly, all of them digging deep and reaping the reward with excellent swim times.

Looking forward to next year!!!!!!!!!
